Tips for the week of 11/18/13 – 11/24/13
Set S.M.A.R.T. goals when practicing: Specific, Motivating, Achievable, Reasonable, Trackable.
There are 3 aspects to performing music: Visual, Aural/Oral, Tactile/Kinesthetic. Find your weakest aspect (at the moment) and focus on that.
Update: I had a great conversation on Twitter about this one with @meerenai and she pointed out the important distinction between the Tactile and Kinesthetic. So, I edited my 3 aspects to make sure that’s explicitly included, although my intention was there all along. 🙂
There’s always something to work on.
Great quote by Shelly Berg about playing the changes:
Trying to figure out how to best divide up your practice time? Try graphing it out.
If you can fill in the blank “I really struggle with ____” then you already know what to start working on.
Can you easily go up, but struggle going down your scales? Try starting at the top and go down, up, and down.
