Tips for the week of 12/16/13 – 12/22/13
Learn a simple song (or holiday song) in all 12 keys – Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle, Over The Rainbow, Jingle Bells, etc…
Keep an ongoing list of the things you need and/or want to work on. Then start working on them.
I’m only allowed to make a note/rhythm mistake once. If I do, I clearly mark it so I don’t miss it again. I refuse to make the same mistake twice.
Maintenance! Don’t forget to regularly review things (scales, keys, tunes, etc) you have already worked on.
Play within dynamics. Forte is not a level it’s a range. There’s so much room for interpretation & variation.
Don’t be afraid to experiment. You don’t have to know all the answers – explore and see what you can discover.
Work on pitch matching – sing a note then find it on your instrument. Sing the next note and find. Repeat.
