About Moni

Hi! Welcome to my Blog. My name is Monica Shriver, my friends call me Moni. Thanks for stopping by! Feel free to leave a comment introducing yourself!

I enjoy a diverse and creative career performing all kinds of music in a wide variety of musical situations. I’m a professional musician, composer & arranger, and teaching artist. I play in big bands, jazz combos, pit orchestras, rock bands, chamber ensembles, and orchestras on all the saxophones, flute and piccolo, clarinet and bass clarinet, and bassoon.

I’m an active member of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) Local 586, North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA), Jazz Education Network (JEN) and MENC. I’m also a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas – (my donation page).

I earned the prestigious SURDNA Fellowship Grant in 2010 and a professional growth grant from the Arizona Commission for the Arts in 2011.

Some fun facts about me:

  • I’m a Scorpio / Fire Snake.
  • I draw, sketch, doodle, and paint.

  • I’m a bit of a bookworm – anything on jazz or jazz musicians, books on education and being a better teacher, books on business, mystery novels, and interesting fiction.

  • I like being outdoors – especially the mountains and the ocean
  • I have three awesome cats.
